Madhupur Satra

Assamese Vaishnavite monastery outside town, linked to the saint Sankardeva and Koch royal patronage.

Madhupur Satra is a quiet Vaishnavite monastery west of Cooch Behar, built in honour of the Assamese saint Sankardeva. Its presence is a reminder that this borderland has always looked as much toward Assam as toward Kolkata.

The grounds are simple and peaceful. It is best visited with your own transport or as part of a half-day circuit outside the town centre.
