Baro Sona Masjid

Baro Sona Masjid is one of the great ruined mosques of Gour. Begun under Alauddin Husain Shah and completed by Nasiruddin Nusrat Shah in 1526, it shows the Indo-Islamic architecture that made the old Bengal capitals so distinctive.

The name means "Big Golden Mosque", a reference to the gilded domes it once carried. Only 11 of the original 44 domes survive, and the gold is gone, but the scale, stone carving, and long arched facade still make it a strong stop among Gour's scattered monuments.
