Palasari Dam is a calm inland stop north-west of Negara, where the road climbs from the coast toward the greener edge of West Bali National Park. The reservoir is used for irrigation and flood control, but it also gives the area one of its better easy viewpoints.
The drive matters as much as the dam. Nearby Palasari is a Catholic village with Balinese architectural details and a striking church, a reminder that Jembrana's religious map is more varied than most visitors expect from Bali.
