Coral Garden

The Coral Garden sits between the USAT Liberty wreck and the main beach, in shallow water that rarely exceeds 15 metres. This makes it the most approachable site in Tulamben for snorkellers and novice divers, and it is often used for check-out dives before heading to the wreck.

The coral here is alive and varied — table corals, brain corals, and staghorn formations shelter clownfish, lionfish, and schools of chromis. Turtles pass through regularly and show little interest in divers. It lacks the drama of the Drop Off or the history of the Liberty, but it is reliable, colourful, and easy, and on a calm morning it is genuinely beautiful.
