The Karun is the only navigable river in Iran and the lifeblood of Ahvaz. The riverside promenade that runs between the bridges is the city's best public space — busy in the evenings when the heat subsides, with families walking, vendors selling corn and tea, and fishermen working the banks. The light on the river at dusk is genuinely beautiful, especially when viewed from one of the bridges.
Boat trips on the Karun are available from the riverfront — short excursions that give a different perspective on the city's bridges and the industrial landscape beyond. The river is also popular with anglers; carp and catfish are common catches. This is one of the few places in Ahvaz where you can simply sit, watch the water, and feel the city slow down.
