Ahvaz itself is not a conventional tourist destination, but the surrounding Khuzestan province is one of the richest archaeological regions on earth. The city's bridges over the Karun River are worth a walk, and the historic Pol-e Siah is a genuine landmark — but most visitors use Ahvaz as a base for the extraordinary sites nearby: Chogha Zanbil, Shush, and Shushtar can all be done as day trips.
