Ganjali Khan Teahouse (Vakil)

Bazaar teahouse for lunch under a Safavid brick vault

The teahouse inside the Vakil Caravanserai — sometimes called the Ganjali Khan Teahouse because of its proximity — is the obvious lunch stop in central Kerman, set in the original brick-vaulted arches of the caravanserai with the central pool a few steps away. The menu is short and traditional: dizi (lamb-and-chickpea stew brought to the table in its iron pot), zereshk polo (saffron rice with barberries and chicken), kebab koobideh, herb omelettes, and tea with dates.

It is a working teahouse — locals come for hookah and backgammon as much as for the food — and the atmosphere is unhurried. Cash is easier than card; non-alcoholic drinks only. Open every day from late morning until evening.
