Getting There

By air. Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani Airport (KER) sits 10 kilometres south of the city, with daily Iran Air and Mahan Air flights to Tehran and several weekly to Mashhad, Isfahan, and Shiraz. A taxi from the airport to the centre costs about 250,000 rials.

By train. Kerman is the end of one of the main Iranian railway lines. Overnight sleeper trains run nightly to Tehran (around 14 hours), passing through Bafq and Yazd. The station is on the southwestern edge of town; a taxi to the centre costs little.

By bus. Long-distance buses connect Kerman to every major city in Iran. Yazd is six hours northwest; Bam two hours southeast; Bandar Abbas about eight hours south. VIP buses (with reclining seats and meals) are inexpensive and run by several reliable companies; book a day ahead in summer.

By car. Kerman lies on the main north–south highway through eastern Iran. Roads are good. International driving permits are not honoured; foreign visitors with their own vehicles will need a carnet de passages.
