Magome-Tsumago Trail

The Magome-Tsumago Trail is the classic walk on this part of the Nakasendo, about 7 to 8 kilometres between two preserved post towns. From Magome the route leaves the stone street, passes fields and forest, crosses small streams, and drops toward Tsumago, which feels a little quieter and less polished.

It is a real walk rather than a theme-park path, but it is not difficult for most travelers with decent shoes. Allow two to three hours one way, more if you stop often. Luggage forwarding is usually available through the tourist office, which makes the walk much easier if you are moving onward.
