The Toson Memorial Museum stands on the site of Magome's former honjin, the official inn for high-ranking travelers. It now remembers Shimazaki Toson, the novelist born here, whose work helped fix Magome and the Kiso road in Japan's modern literary imagination.
The museum is best for visitors who like the human layer behind preserved towns. Even if the English explanation is limited, the site matters: it connects the old post-town system, a local family house, and the later memory of the Nakasendo in one place.
