The Wakihonjin Museum occupies the site of Magome's secondary official inn, used when the main honjin was full or when a traveler's rank required separate lodging. It is a small museum, but it gives useful detail on how a Nakasendo post town actually worked.
Come here after walking the main street, when the labels and objects have somewhere to land in your head. The building and exhibits are modest, but they help turn the pretty preserved lane into a real travel system of inns, porters, messengers, and status rules.
