Yunotsu Onsen is a small hot-spring town with a serious history behind its quiet streets. It prospered as a port for Iwami Ginzan silver, and the baths once served miners and traders moving between the mountains and the coast. The town is part of the Iwami Ginzan World Heritage landscape and has one of Japan's rare preserved hot-spring streetscapes.
The charm is low-key: narrow lanes, old bathhouses, tiled roofs, and the feeling that people still live inside the heritage zone. Come for a soak after visiting the mine area, or stay into the evening if you can time it with local Iwami Kagura performances.
