The Chugoku region occupies the western tail of Honshu, split by mountains into a sunny Inland Sea coast and a quieter Sea of Japan side. Its best-known city is Hiroshima, with its Peace Memorial and the floating torii of nearby Miyajima. Elsewhere are the great sand dunes of Tottori, the ancient grand shrine of Izumo, and the samurai town of Tsuwano.
