Xavier Memorial Church commemorates St Francis Xavier, who spent part of his 16th-century mission to Japan in Yamaguchi. The first floor has a small museum on Xavier and the history of Christianity in the area, while the church space above is still used for worship.
The modern building is striking inside, with a bright white interior and angular blue windows designed by an Italian architect.
