Yanai Nishigura is a former soy-sauce storehouse turned craft stop. Its best activity is making a kingyo chochin, the red paper goldfish lantern that has become Yanai's symbol.
It is tourist-friendly, but not empty. The lanterns come from a local Edo-period craft tradition, and making one gives the old district a useful splash of colour and context.
