Susukino craft beer bar with Hokkaido taps

The Hokkaido craft beer scene has expanded considerably in the past decade, and Susukino now has a cluster of good bars pouring local brews from smaller breweries around the island. The bar strip on Minami 5-jo Nishi 2-chome has several standing craft beer bars within a short walk of each other — the kind of strip that rewards wandering rather than committing to one place. Hokkaido breweries making worthwhile beer include Hokkaido Brewing, Baeren from Iwate, and a number of smaller operations that change seasonally. Prices are modest by Japanese craft beer standards.

Yoichi focuses on Hokkaido taps, with the list rotating to reflect what's currently available from local producers. The standing format keeps turnover quick and the atmosphere unpretentious; this is somewhere people come to drink rather than to photograph their glass. The Susukino location means you're also well-placed for ramen afterwards, which is the natural end point of a Sapporo night out regardless of where you start.
