Getting Around

Most of central Himeji is walkable from the station. Otemae-dori runs in a straight line from the station forecourt to the castle, roughly fifteen minutes on foot, and the main museums and arcades cluster around that axis.

For Mount Shosha and the outer attractions, the Shinki Bus network runs from the station. The Castle Loop Bus (covered by a cheap one-day pass) takes in the museums and gardens north of the castle and is useful in summer when the walk gets hot. Bicycle rental is available outside the station for ¥500 a day and is the best way to cover the city in a single afternoon.
