Ogaki Castle is a concrete reconstruction, but the site has real history. The castle guarded routes through western Mino, played into the manoeuvring before the Battle of Sekigahara, and later became the seat of the Toda clan under the Tokugawa shogunate.
The keep now works as a small museum, with views over the low city from the top floor. It is most rewarding when paired with the old canals and the Basho sites rather than judged against Japan's original castles.
