This memorial hall explains why Ogaki matters to Japanese literary travel. Matsuo Basho ended the long journey behind Oku no Hosomichi, usually translated as The Narrow Road to the Deep North, at Ogaki, and the museum follows the route, the poems, and the people connected with the trip.
The displays are most meaningful if you know even a little about Basho before you arrive. Without that, treat it as a compact introduction and then walk to the canal port where the journey ended.
