Naritasan Shinsho-ji is the reason Narita has a town centre worth visiting. Founded in 940, the temple is dedicated to Fudo Myoo and has drawn pilgrims for centuries. The halls, gates, pagoda, and incense-heavy courtyards give it the scale and ritual life missing from most airport towns.
Come through Omotesando rather than by taxi to the gate. The slow approach makes the temple feel connected to the shops and restaurants that grew around it.
