The Kanto region is the heart of modern Japan, the great plain around Tokyo Bay that holds the capital Tokyo, the port city of Yokohama, and roughly a third of the country's population. Beyond the metropolis lie some of Japan's best day trips: the temples and Great Buddha of Kamakura, the shrines of Nikko, and the hot springs and Mount Fuji views of Hakone.
