Tozan Shrine

Tozan Shrine is Arita's most memorable small sight. Its torii, guardian figures, lanterns, and other fittings use porcelain where most shrines use stone, turning the town's craft into something ceremonial rather than commercial.

The shrine was founded in the 17th century and has long been revered by local ceramists. Climb the steps slowly; the details reward close looking, and the railway crossing below gives the approach an oddly ordinary charm.
