Hizen Hamashuku is Kashima's old sake and port district, a preserved stretch of timber buildings along the former Tara Road. Travellers on the Nagasaki route once stopped here, and several breweries still give the streets a working identity rather than a purely museum-like one.
Walk slowly, look for the white plaster walls and old shopfronts, and leave room to taste or buy local sake if a brewery is open.
