Yonaguni is reached by air from Naha (Okinawa's capital) via Japan Air Commuter, with flights taking about an hour. There are also direct flights from Ishigaki, the nearest large island in the Yaeyama group. The island has a small airport; flights are infrequent (a few per week from each destination) and book up well in advance during the November–March diving season. A ferry service connects Yonaguni to Ishigaki, but the crossing takes about 4–5 hours and is uncomfortable in rough weather; most travelers fly. Accommodation on the island is limited to a handful of minshuku (family guesthouses) and small hotels — booking well ahead is essential.
