Ama Beach sits on the western side of Zamami Island, a twenty-minute walk or short bus ride from the port. It is quieter than Furuzamami and has a different character: a smaller cove facing the uninhabited islands of Gahi and Agenashiku, with calm, shallow water ideal for families and for those who want a more solitary experience. The water is shallow enough that sea turtles come in to feed on the seagrass close to shore.
There is minimal infrastructure at Ama Beach compared to Furuzamami — which is part of the appeal. You can hire snorkelling gear at a hut near the beach. The morning light falls well on this western beach, making it a good choice for an early visit before heading to Furuzamami in the afternoon.
