Furuzamami Beach

Furuzamami Beach is the main beach on Zamami Island, stretching about 800 metres on the southeastern coast. The sand is white and very fine, the water crystal clear from the famous Kerama Blue — the intense, almost luminous blue that the transparency of these waters creates. Coral reef begins close to the shore, making snorkelling accessible to anyone with basic ability. Clownfish, sea turtles, parrotfish, and a great variety of reef species are visible without needing to go deep or far.

The beach has sun lounger rentals, a small snack bar, and equipment rental for snorkelling. A dive shop near the port organises guided dives. The beach fills up on summer weekends and during the Japanese holiday periods, but remains relatively quiet compared to Okinawa's more accessible beaches further north. It is at its best early in the morning and in late afternoon when the light is low on the water.

A story
Furuzamami Beach is a 20-minute walk or 5-minute bus ride from the port, on the southeastern side of the island. It has been ranked the best beach in Japan by multiple travel sites in recent years. The coral begins just a few metres from the waterline, and visibility in the Kerama waters can exceed 30 metres — some of the clearest ocean water in Japan.
