Komyo-ji is a modern Pure Land Buddhist temple rebuilt by Tadao Ando. The surprise is the restraint: concrete geometry, warm timber, and controlled light create a very different mood from the old pilgrimage temples elsewhere in Saijo.
It is close enough to Iyo-Saijo Station to fold into a short walk with the springs and railway museum. Go quietly; this is still an active temple, not an architecture showroom.
