Uwajima City Date Museum

The Date Museum covers the history of the Date clan, who ruled Uwajima domain for most of the Edo period (1615–1868). The Date of Uwajima were a branch of the famous Sendai Date clan — relatives of the celebrated warlord Date Masamune — who received their domain in 1615 and maintained it for nine generations. The museum holds clan documents, armour, weapons, and items relating to the domain's administration, including materials connected to Uwajima's role in early Meiji-era modernisation efforts, when the domain briefly led Japanese experimentation with Western technology. Worth a visit alongside the castle. Open Tuesday to Sunday.
