Warei Shrine is one of Uwajima's main local shrines, close enough to the station to visit without planning a separate excursion. The approach, bridge, and shrine grounds give a calm introduction to the city before or after the castle climb.
The shrine matters most during the Warei Taisai and Uwajima Ushi-oni festival season, when the city's ritual life becomes much more visible. Outside festival dates it is still a worthwhile short stop, especially if you are piecing together Uwajima beyond its castle and bullfighting ring.
