Kabushima

Small shrine island famous for its black-tailed gull colony and coastal views.

Kabushima is a small headland shrine at the northern end of the Tanesashi coast. In spring and early summer it becomes loud, messy, and memorable, as thousands of black-tailed gulls nest around the shrine and circle above the rocks.

The shrine is dedicated to Benzaiten and is tied to luck in business and fishing. Even outside nesting season, it is a good first stop on the coast, with open views back toward the harbour and south along the Pacific.
