Yajiro Kokeshi Village is the best place to understand Shiroishi's craft side. The local style of kokeshi doll is one of Tohoku's traditional strains, with simple forms and painted details that reward a slower look.
The visit is small, but it adds something handmade to a Shiroishi day. If demonstrations or painting sessions are available, they make the stop much more memorable.
