Honmyoji Temple is known for the preserved mummy of Togashi Yoshibei, a samurai whose self-mummification was completed in 1683. The temple is a specialist stop rather than a broad sightseeing draw, but the story and preservation make it one of the more unusual religious sites around Tsuruoka.
