Kir Heres sits just below the castle gate and has been feeding tour groups and independent travellers for years. The menu is reliable Jordanian: mansaf on Fridays, mezze platters with hummus and mutabbal, grilled lamb chops, and fresh bread from a wood oven. Service is efficient if a little rushed at peak times.
Prices are higher than the places down in the old town, but the location — and a terrace with a sliver of castle view — make it a fair choice for lunch between visits. Vegetarian options are decent. Cash and most cards accepted.
