Atameken (Native Land) is an open-air park east of the Ishim River containing a 1.7-hectare scale map of Kazakhstan, with miniature versions of every major architectural monument in the country — the mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkistan, the Aral Sea (showing both its old and new extent), the towers of Almaty, the petroglyphs of Tamgaly, and dozens more. Visitors can walk between the regions and inspect each model.
The format is touristy in the best sense — useful as a primer if you are planning to travel elsewhere in Kazakhstan and helpful for kids. There is a small restaurant, a souvenir shop, and a yurt where you can buy tea. Combine with a visit to the central park nearby on a warm day.
