Tekturmas

Hilltop sacred complex above the Talas River, with wide views back over Taraz.

Tekturmas is a hilltop sacred complex on the edge of Taraz, above the Talas River. The rebuilt mausoleum and surrounding graves are modest, but the position is excellent: from here you can see the city, the river plain, and the dry hills that explain why Taraz has always felt like a threshold between settled oasis and open steppe.

It is worth adding to a Taraz circuit if you have a driver. The stop is short, but it gives the city's history a landscape rather than just a list of monuments.
