Most visitors arrive by air at Kuwait International Airport (KWI), located about 16 km south of Kuwait City. The national carrier Kuwait Airways and the low-cost Jazeera Airways both operate extensive regional and international networks. Major international airlines serving Kuwait include British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad. Direct flights connect Kuwait to London, Paris, Frankfurt, and most major Asian and Middle Eastern cities. There are no direct flights from North America -- you will need to connect through a European or Gulf hub.
From the airport, taxis are readily available and the ride to central Kuwait City takes about 20-25 minutes. Agree on the fare before getting in, or use a ride-hailing app like Careem. There is also a bus service, though it is slow and infrequent.
By road, Kuwait is connected to Saudi Arabia by excellent highways. Bus services run to Dammam and other Saudi cities. The border crossing to Iraq exists but is not recommended for casual travel. There is no rail connection.
By sea, ferries operate between Kuwait City and Bushehr in Iran, running several times a week from Ash Shuwayk Port. Most other sea traffic is commercial.
Visitors from many Western countries can obtain an e-visa online before arrival, or a visa on arrival at the airport. Check current requirements before traveling, as the rules change frequently.
