Altyn Kol

Women's felt cooperative selling shyrdaks and other Kyrgyz textile work near the CBT office.

Altyn Kol is Kochkor's best craft stop. The cooperative is known for shyrdaks, the felt carpets made from dyed wool and stitched into bold, geometric patterns that are both household goods and Kyrgyz identity.

Prices are higher than in a random bazaar stall, but that is part of the point: the cooperative exists to connect women producers with fairer income. Even if you are not buying a carpet, stop in to see the work and ask whether workshops or demonstrations are possible.
