Kochkor is most useful from late May to September, when Song-Kul and the surrounding jailoos are reachable and yurt camps operate. The town itself functions all year, but winter turns many of the routes that make it interesting into serious mountain travel.
Saturday is the best day to be in town if you want the animal bazaar. For horse treks, ask about current pass conditions rather than trusting a fixed calendar.
