The Boat Landing is a small guesthouse and restaurant about 4 kilometres south of town on the Nam Tha River, long regarded as the best place to eat in Luang Namtha. The kitchen works with local suppliers and produces traditional dishes from the various ethnic communities of the region — Lao, Khmu, Akha — that you will not find elsewhere. Dishes change with the season and what is available from the surrounding forest and farms.
The dining area overlooks the river and the forest; the atmosphere is unhurried and genuinely pleasant. Cooking classes in traditional highland Lao cuisine are also offered periodically. For those staying at the Boat Landing, the guesthouse part of the operation is well-regarded for its comfort and riverside location. Worth the tuk-tuk ride from town even just for dinner.
