Saydet et-Tallé Church

Saydet et-Tallé — Our Lady of the Hill — is the main Maronite church of Deir el Qamar, set on the slope above the Midan with a small terraced courtyard in front. The current building dates from the seventeenth century, replacing an earlier shrine to the Virgin that gave the town its religious anchor before the princes arrived.

The interior is whitewashed and modest, with a wooden iconostasis painted by local artists in the nineteenth century and a small revered icon of the Virgin above the main altar. Sunday morning mass is in Arabic with Aramaic responses and is worth attending if you can fit it.
