Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is the reason most travellers come here. Orphaned and displaced orangutans are prepared for forest life, and visitors watch from boardwalks and viewing areas rather than wandering freely through the reserve.
Feeding times give the best chance of seeing orangutans, but keep the visit in perspective. These are semi-wild animals in a rehabilitation landscape, and the most respectful thing you can do is stay quiet, keep distance, and follow the staff.
