The night market in Changlun, about 15 kilometres north of Sintok on the main road towards the Thai border, is the best reason to make the short journey. The food reflects the town's position on the Malaysian-Thai cultural borderland: you will find Thai-influenced dishes alongside standard Malaysian hawker fare, and the ingredients at the market stalls tend towards the Thai side — lemongrass, kaffir lime, galangal in quantities you don't often see further south.
The market runs on weekday evenings and is busier on weekends. It is casual, cheap, and primarily local — exactly the kind of place that doesn't appear in guidebooks and is worth finding precisely for that reason.
