Antong Coffee Mill

The Antong Coffee Mill operates from a pre-war shophouse in the old town and has been roasting coffee since 1933 using the same wood-fired drum roasters. This is not a heritage theme park — it is a working mill that still produces and sells coffee by the bag. The roasting process happens daily, and the smell of freshly roasted beans permeates the surrounding street.

You can watch the roasting, buy freshly ground coffee directly from the mill, and sample a cup brewed the old-fashioned way. The coffee is dark, strong, and considerably better than anything sold in a chain. The mill also stocks traditional kaya (coconut jam) and biscuits from local makers. Worth a visit even if you are not a coffee drinker, for the glimpse into an artisanal process that has been continuous for nearly a century.

A story
Antong Coffee Mill has been roasting coffee in Taiping since 1933, making it one of the oldest working coffee roasteries in Malaysia. The original wood-fired roasting drums are still in use, and the mill still roasts and packages coffee by hand using methods unchanged from the 1930s. Watching the roasting process is free — the owners welcome curious visitors.
