The Taiping Clock Tower stands at the junction of Jalan Kota and is one of the most recognisable colonial landmarks in the town. Built in 1890, the square white tower with its prominent clock faces was constructed to mark a royal visit and served as the symbolic centre of the town during the British period. The surrounding area — the old courthouse, the Residency, and the adjoining padang — retains much of its colonial layout.
The clock tower is not open to visitors but is easily photographed from the street and makes a natural anchor for a walking tour of Taiping's old town. From here, the old market, the pre-war shophouses of the Chinese quarter, and the Lake Gardens entrance are all within a 10-minute walk.
