Lata Berkoh Rapids

Lata Berkoh is a series of rapids on the Tahan River, reached by boat from Kuala Tahan in about 45 minutes. The rapids cascade over granite boulders in a stretch of river surrounded by dense forest, forming natural pools for swimming. The water is clear, cool, and refreshing — a relief after the heat and humidity of the trail.

The journey upriver is half the experience: the boat navigates shallows and threads between rocks, sometimes requiring passengers to wade for short stretches. Guides can combine a Lata Berkoh trip with a visit to an Orang Asli village nearby, where you can see traditional blowpipe demonstrations and learn about the Batek people's forest knowledge.

A story
The name Lata Berkoh means "noisy waterfall" in Malay — apt for a series of rapids where the Tahan River drops over granite boulders in a rush of white water. The pool at the base is clear and cool, and the forest surrounds it completely. It feels like a place no one else knows about, though the boat from Kuala Tahan takes about 45 minutes.
