The Marine Park Centre sits on the southern end of Tekek beach, just up from the main jetty. It is part visitor centre, part working office for the Department of Marine Park Malaysia, which administers the protected waters around Tioman. The small display inside covers the island's coral, reef fish, and turtle nesting, and a chart on the wall shows the major dive and snorkel sites with notes on what you are likely to see at each.
The beach in front of the centre is one of the better snorkelling spots accessible from shore — wade out over a sandy shelf to a shallow coral bommie that holds parrotfish, sergeant majors, and the occasional small reef shark. The centre also collects the modest marine park conservation fee that all visitors are expected to pay.
