Madivaru

Uninhabited picnic island in the Rasdhoo atoll, 15 minutes by boat

Madivaru is a tiny uninhabited island in the south-western corner of Rasdhoo atoll, a 15-minute panga ride from Rasdhoo village. It is the classic Maldives picnic-island stop — a few palm trees on a sandbar, the lagoon shallow and calm on one side, the reef on the other. Most Rasdhoo guesthouses run a half-day excursion that includes the panga, a guide, snorkelling gear, and lunch on the beach.

The snorkelling around the island reef is the main reason to come — bigger fish life than the Rasdhoo house reef, and good chances of seeing turtles and napoleon wrasse. Combine with a sandbank stop at the right tide and a quick swing past Kuramathi reef for a full-day boat trip.
