Maldivian local islands operate under Islamic dress codes for residents and visitors moving through the village — covered shoulders and knees, no swimwear off the water. To accommodate visiting divers and beach swimmers, every local island that takes tourists sets aside a stretch of beach where bikinis and swim shorts are allowed. On Rasdhoo this is the south-side bikini beach — a curve of pale sand fringed with palms, sheltered by the reef, with a couple of small beach cafes.
The beach is small enough to walk in a few minutes and quiet outside the peak season. Sunset is the time to be here — the colours over the lagoon are properly Maldivian, and the snorkel boats come in at the end of the day. Respect the dress code when walking back through the village.
