Tsambagarav National Park

Tsambagarav is a 4,208-metre peak in the northern Altai, the heart of a national park on the border between Khovd and Bayan-Ölgii provinces. The mountain is sacred to both Kazakh and Mongolian herders, and the surrounding valleys hold some of the densest snow-leopard habitat in the country.

The park is reachable in a long day's drive from Khovd, generally combined with a trip to eagle hunters or to Khar Us Lake. Climbing the main peak is technical and requires a permit; most visitors trek the lower passes and camp in the valleys. June to September is the open season.
