Colonial Old Town

Leafy grid of old wooden houses, markets, tea shops, and colonial-era buildings in central Dawei.

Dawei's old centre is best treated as a wander rather than a checklist. The streets are flat and gridded, with timber houses, old shopfronts, small markets, tea shops, and colonial-era buildings mixed into everyday town life.

It is not restored into a museum quarter, which is exactly why it still has atmosphere. Go in the morning or late afternoon, when the heat eases and the markets and tea shops give the walk some rhythm.
